Benefits of eco-friendly food packaging
This is a sponsored post.
In the Philippines, the pandemic has converted individuals into numerous home-based entrepreneurs, significantly in the food industry. People in lockdown areas have adopted e-commerce using community groups selling all sorts of food products, from groceries to home-cooked and home-made nibbles.
Heirloom recipes, recipe makeovers or altered recipes became the trend. And yet, anyone can cook (bland or not), almost, everyone can become a self-made chef. While some do not have proper training in food preparation, the selling goes on. The expertise depends on the ability to create and form a marketable product.
In October 2020, we enrolled for e-Start Your Own Business (e-SYOB) and part of the study is about the market research for the model product that we wanted to highlight. The business plan includes methods that we were asked to address:
How will I observe proper waste disposal?
How can I take care of mother nature?
Our local government is advocating the 3 R’s of sustainability, though the drive is not consistent and the people need to be reminded and disciplined all the time. How can we, as online sellers minimize waste and pursue reuse/recycle advocacy? It particularly applies to food packaging, as the market is saturated with plastics and styrofoams. We can use a better alternative by replacing plastics with eco-friendly food packaging. As an example, pack your pastries using stand-up pouch or doy-packs that are made from eco-material. These pouches are designed for food-grade materials. Use different flexible food packaging such as rice paper pouches, kraft pouches, retort pouches, window pouches, and laminated zipper bags.

Other benefits of eco-friendly food packaging
Environment friendly. Pouches with resealable zip locks can be re-used to store and protect other food.
Bio-degradable. Food containers made of eco-material uses less plastics and normally degrades in he landfill in less than 2 years.
Reduce food waste. Resealable or flexible food packaging extends the shelf life.
Food safety. Uses less chemicals and are made from food grade material as approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). An option to add ultraviolet protection upon request from packaging manufacturers.
With eco-friendly packaging, we start adopting towards sustainability. Practice the 7 R’s:
Rethink. Refuse. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Repair. Replace.
